On November 27, 2025, we are sending a clear signal against discrimination and abuse of power and for respectful cooperation at our university. We invite you to workshops at all locations, an information market with internal and external advice centers and an evening of talks, music and dance.
It is important to the HfMT Cologne that our university is a safe place for all students, teachers, employees and visitors, where, in accordance with its Code of Conduct, there is no room for abuse of power - be it in the form of discrimination, harassment or other transgressions.
The day of action at the HfMT Cologne is taking place as part of a nationwide day of action organized by the Rectors' Conference of German Universities of Music under the motto "KUNST.MACHT.MENSCHLICHKEIT" (ART.POWER.HUMANITY) on November 27, 2025 at all 24 German universities of music. With this day of action, the RKM is sending a publicly visible signal for an open debate on power relations, prevention and structural change at universities of the arts and in the arts and culture sector.
Further information on dealing with abuse of power at the HfMT Cologne:
The workshop is aimed at students of all degree programs and deals with the topics of discrimination at universities, empowerment and allyship. Based on an intersectional understanding of anti-discrimination, various dimensions and forms of discrimination and their effects will be addressed and requirements for a power-critical and discrimination-critical university will be discussed.
This interactive workshop is about masculinity, competition, sovereignty and solidarity. How do ideas of masculinity shape the structures at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz? What effects do performance narratives and claims to excellence have on students?
And how can privilege and structural discrimination be dealt with constructively and appreciatively? The workshop opens up a space for real questions and honest debate. The aim is to start a conversation together and develop new, reflective perspectives on solidarity-based action. We will work in conversation and discussion formats as well as with movement-oriented methods. The workshop is aimed at students of all gender identities and is offered in German or bilingually as required.
How does abuse of power arise - and how can we counteract it? In this workshop, we will explore the question of how structures, attitudes and forms of communication at our university shape power relations and how we can change them.
Through practical discussion exercises and group work, we will try out ways of constructively addressing differences and conflicts. Together, we will reflect on what has already been achieved, where challenges lie and how we can take responsibility as a community.
The workshop invites us to talk to each other, listen and explore new areas of action for a respectful, transparent communication culture. The workshop is aimed at all members of the university and will be offered in German or bilingually as required.
The workshop deals with challenges in communication between teachers and students and ways to develop an appreciative approach and a constructive feedback culture. It consists of impulses on communication theories and attitudes (e.g. non-violent communication) as well as group work and role plays.
The workshop deals with challenges in communication between lecturers and students and ways to develop an appreciative approach and a constructive feedback culture. It consists of impulses on communication theories and attitudes (e.g. non-violent communication) as well as group work and role plays.
The workshop offers space for reflection, collegial exchange and the development of concrete options for action for a power-sensitive university culture. "Power" is a central component of university structures - it opens up scope for creativity, but also brings with it a great deal of responsibility. In this workshop, lecturers have the opportunity to take a close look at their role and power structure in order to shape their own sphere of influence in a reflected, responsible and effective way.
