Together we reach the highest notes

Practical relevance, performance experience and professional relevance are important pillars of music and dance education for us. That is why we cooperate with regional and national cultural institutions, with associations and educational institutions at all three locations. International cooperation with other artistic universities also contributes significantly to the profile of the university. Our goal is to make the university more cosmopolitan and attractive, to network it better internationally and to increase its performance in global competition.
We want to ensure that our students receive not only a sound theoretical education, but above all a practical professional education. Through numerous regional, national and international projects, they should have the opportunity to exchange ideas with other students - as often as possible - to get a taste of the stage and to make the city and region their sounding board.

Cologne is a vibrant metropolis of culture with an almost unmanageable variety of theaters, concerts, stages, museums and festivals. The Cologne University of Music and Dance is an important part of this lush sound play. From the philharmonic orchestra to the jazz scene and from the opera stage to WDR or Deutschlandfunk, students can gain performance and practical experience in a wide variety of areas of Cologne's cultural scene. In addition to the artistic instrumental and vocal subjects, the Wuppertal location has a traditional focus on music education. To this end, the university offers a distinctly practice-oriented education and cooperates with a wide range of cultural and educational institutions. These include:

  • close cooperation with the surrounding music schools and with general education schools, job shadowing and teaching trials in music lessons at the primary level
  • the possibility of in-depth studies (6 semesters) in movement/dance with an artistic-pedagogical final examination
  • elementary music practice with seniors, observation and teaching samples, cooperation with the network of seniors
  • annual performance evenings (percussion, ensemble direction, scenic play, voice, music and movement/dance) with all students of the education degree programs
  • Cooperation with the Bergische Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (Bergisch Society for New Music) in the context of concert pedagogical offerings
  • the artistic-pedagogical final performances of the module Music and Movement/Dance (live music, work with children and young people)
  • the conception and realization of children's concerts, dance theater performances for and with children and young people
