Music Education

As a scientific field of research, music education is particularly linked to the practice of teaching in its manifold conditions. The scientific activities at this university are committed to this basic idea. Research into the conditions of musical learning and teaching, from early education to adult education, is the focus of numerous projects. The close connection to current music pedagogical issues goes hand in hand with an increased tendency towards teaching research and the development of competence in qualitative research methodology. HfMT Cologne is involved in several externally funded projects. Special attention is paid to the promotion of young researchers, who are continuously supported in a joint doctoral colloquium in addition to individual supervision.
