Master of Music – Chamber Music (for Pre-formed Ensembles)

The degree programme in Chamber Music is designed for the following ensembles:

Woodwind Instruments:

  • Woodwind quintet (only classical wind quintet instrumentation: Bassoon, Oboe, Flute, Bugle, Clarinet)
  • Saxophone quartet (only 4 Saxophones)
  • Trio d’anches (Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon)

Strings:

  • String Trio (Violin, Viola, Violoncello)
  • String quartet  (2 Violins, Viola, Violoncello)
  • String quintet (2 Violins, 2 Violas, Violoncello)

Guitar:

  • Guitar Duo (only 2 Guitars)
  • Guitar quartet (only 4 Guitars)

Piano:

  • Piano (without Ensemble)
  • Piano Duo (2 pianos), no other duo instrumentation
  • Piano Trio (Piano, Violin, Violoncello)
  • Piano quartet (Piano, Violin, Viola, Violoncello)
  • Piano quintett (Piano, 2 Violins, Viola, Violoncello)

The programme is intended exclusively for pre-formed ensembles that are starting to work together professionally and looking to prepare intensively for a professional career. Preparation for competition is an equally important part of the course as developing the ensemble’s artistic profile. The tuition is given entirely by industry professionals and is supplemented by chamber music workshops with internationally renowned ensembles.

  • Academic degree: Master of Music
  • Duration of degree program: 4 semesters (2 years)
  • Start of program: Winter semester
  • Degree requirements: 120 ECTS credits

Admission Requirments

  • Proof of having successfully completed a Bachelor’s Degree (or other comparable qualification).
  • For non-German-speaking applicants, proof of a language certificate at level A2 (based on the European Reference Framework for Languages) is also required.
  • Successful completion of the entrance examination.

Entrance examination

The entrance examination consists of a practical performance test as an ensemble (duration: approx. 20 minutes)

We are only able to accept applications from the following chamber music ensembles:

  • Violin duo– Piano
  • Cello duo– Piano
  • Piano duo
  • Piano trio or Piano quartet
  • String trio or String quartet

For practical courses, we recommend that candidates contact their chosen subject tutor in good time. They will be happy to advise candidates individually.
