Applying for a Place of Study at the HfMT Köln

The application for a place of study or a place in the programme Pre-College Cologne or Junior Study for Summer Semester 2022 takes place online via the muvac platform.
The application for doctoral programme or registration as guest auditor has to be done by submitting the following completed forms:

How can I apply?
The application takes place online via the muvac platform.

First of all, create a profile in muvac and fill in all the details of your CV. You will be asked to enter all other necessary information online. In your personal profile, you can upload all the required documents as well as include your audio and video recordings under the tab “Media”.

When can I apply online?
The application period for the online application for the summer term 2022 is from 1 September to 1 October 2021.

The application period for the winter term 2022/23 will take place at the beginning of 2022 until 1 March.

Please have the following documents ready either as PDF or image files that are easily readable: 

  1. Higher education entrance qualification:
    - Proof of higher education entrance qualification (Abitur certificate / admission to the Abitur or an equivalence of recognized qualification).
    -    In case you do not have any higher education entrance qualification, the latest school certificate is required for the assessment procedure of outstanding artistic talent.
    -    Applications for Master programmes: Proof of a completed Bachelor degree in accordance with the Entrance Examination Regulations, or if the Bachelor is not completed yet, a current certificate of enrolment.
    -    For international students, all documents and certificates related to school and university education abroad.
  2. List of the pieces / works prepared for the entrance examination according to the Entrance Examination Regulations.
  3. Proof of payment of the participation fee for the application process (please see below).

If you have any questions regarding the application process, please do not hesitate to contact the Student Administration Office.

After receiving your application, it will take some time to process and examine the application. When the process is completed, applicants will receive a response from the Student Administration Office of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.

What is the entrance examination?
You have to prove your artistic aptitude by passing the entrance examination successfully.

When will the entrance examination takes place?
After your online application has been processed and examined, you will receive an invitation to the entrance examination with the exact examination dates from the Student Administration Office of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.

How does the entrance examination work?
The Bachelor and Master programmes have different entrance examination procedures. You can find the details for the entrance examination in the respective Entrance Examination Regulations (please see Study Programmes and Downloads). 
Information on the application process for Bachelor of Arts Dance and Master of Arts Dance Studies can be found in the website of the Centre for Contemporary Dance.

Practical information:

  • We recommend you to contact the lecturer or professor of your choice before registering for the entrance examination (this does not apply to the discipline Dance).
  •  If you have any questions about the content of the examination, please contact the main subject lecturers or professors.
  • It will be a busy time at the university during the weeks of the entrance examination. Rooms will be available for you to warm up.
  • The number of practice rooms is limited. Please agree upon your practice time with other people and show mutual consideration.
  • In the foyer of the university, you will find an information booth during the weeks of entrance examination, our staff will be happy to help you with your questions and find your way in the university.

The Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with its locations in Cologne, Aachen and Wuppertal will charge each applicant a fee of 50.00 € for participating in the admission procedure (if you apply for several study programmes, you only have to pay the fee once). The fee is not refundable, even in the case of application withdrawal.
