The Peter-Ostwald-Institut für Musikermedizin, a medical institute for musicians, was established during the 2009/2010 winter semester at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.
The professional lives of musicians are extremely demanding, both psychologically and physically. Knowing this, they are often compared to competitive athletes, – and rightfully so. However, whereas competitive athletes retire by their mid-thirties at the latest, professional musicians must maintain and nurture their performance skills throughout their lives. The Peter-Ostwald-Institut für Musikergesundheit wants to support you in this endeavor.
Since 1998, the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln has offered courses tailored to the needs of future professional musicians and dancers. These courses offer both theoretical and practical knowledge that helps students stay healthy and happy as they continue to develop their artistic abilities. Should a student fall ill, a special consultation service is available to promptly refer the artist to a specialist in the region (Netzwerk Musikermedizin Nordrhein).
