There is a special connection between music pedagogy as an academic research field and the various forms of in-class instruction. The University’s research activities are committed to this basic principle. Researching what is needed to learn and teach music from early development to adult education is the focus of many projects. The strong ties to current music education issues increasingly involve classroom research and the expansion of competencies in qualitative research methods. The School of Music is collaborating with the University on several third-party projects. In addition to promoting individual participation in a group doctorate colloquium, special emphasis is placed on increasing the pool of future academics. The University’s publication series, “Musicolonia,” is the communications platform for music education and pedagogy research projects.
