Practical experience and exposure to the profession are among the strengths of the Wuppertal campus.
Through its common history, the University's ties to the Bergische Musikschule in Wuppertal were always close, but so too were the ties to other music schools in the region.
Students can gain early practical experience by completing internships as instructors at other music schools. Individual instructors from the University also teach at these music schools in the region. This is not that common of an occurrence, but it does enhance the practical experience of our students. Many of our faculty are also members of the Wuppertaler Sinfonieorchester.
A wide range of courses dealing with the questions and problems of practical experience complete the image of a close connection between art education training and subsequent professional demands.
Collaboration with various music event organizers and institutions also shapes the inclusion of artistic creation into the curriculum. In particular, these institutions include the Wuppertaler Bühnen, which regularly gives vocal students the opportunity to perform, and the Wuppertaler Symphony Orchestra, which offers orchestra internships. The Kantorei Barmen Gemarke and the Bergische Universität also provide students with opportunities to gain professional experience.
Recently, the University worked alongside the Historische Stadthalle am Johannisberg on several individual concert projects.
Faculty and students also contribute their own pieces for concerts at the Bergischen Gesellschaft für Neue Musik and the biannual Bergischen Biennale für Neue Musik.
