Ordering Materials

After successfully looking up materials in the online, click on “Order: All Copies” (Bestellung: Alle Exemplare) next to the selected materials. The “Availability Status” (Bestandsanzeige) will appear at which point you should click on “Order/Reserve” (bestellen/vormerken) for the items you wish to order/reserve. Then, log in with your library loan number and password. Please order the titles at your campus first. Items can be ordered from the paper catalog at the Cologne branch by writing the call number as well as your first and last name on a piece of paper and placing the paper in a gray box located on the floor next to the audio materials catalog at the library entrance.

Ordering and Pick-Up Times (Cologne branch):

Orders placed by 9:00a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 1:30 p.m. can be picked up starting at 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m., respectively (except Fridays). Additional orders may be placed by 3:30 p.m. for pick up starting at 4:00 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. Order forms and pick-up times during semester breaks can be found on the bulletin boards.

Reserving Materials

Items that are checked out may be reserved.
You can find out yourself if the item can be reserved in the online catalog when ordering. This is not possible when using the paper catalog. Please go to the issuing desk to reserve an item. You will receive a notice once the item has been returned.

Renewals

It is possible to renew an item loaned from the library stacks, but only if the item has not yet been reserved (see Reserving Materials).
With the exception of periodicals, DVDs, CDs, and videos, it is generally possible to renew an item up to three times.
The renewal can be made either through your personal account in the online catalog, in person at the issuing desk, in writing, or by telephone. You can double-check the due date in your personal account. If late fees are incurred, renewals may only be made as long as the fees do not exceed €35. If late fees do exceed €35, new items may not be checked out.

Late Fees

Fees and Costs

Late fees may be imposed, even without prior warning, in accordance with regulations regarding the raising of fees for information, communication, and media matters pursuant to Sec. 30 Hochschulegesetz of North Rhine-Westphalia (GebO-IKM NRW) from August 18, 2005.

Fees are incurred according to the number of days overdue and are calculated per item:

€2 if overdue by up to 10 calendar days
€5 if overdue by up to 20 calendar days
€10 if overdue by up to 30 calendar days
€20 if overdue by more than 40 calendar days

If items on short-term loan (e.g., reference materials) are not returned on time, late fees of €2 per item and calendar day will be imposed.

Additional library materials cannot be checked out as long as late fees remain unpaid.
