To a greater extent than almost any other comparable institution of higher education in Europe, the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln has a broad spectrum of majors among its diverse Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. These majors are available for:
- All orchestra instruments as well as many special instruments
- Orchestra musicians (in connection with the Orchesterzentrum Dortmund)

- Degree programs with artistic and pedagogic focuses

In 2010, the teaching degree program for music, the most popular of its kind in Germany, will also transition to the bachelor’s and master’s systems while modernizing its focus and maintaining the University's longstanding partnership with the city of Cologne.
