The teaching degree programs prepare students in all practical and theoretical areas to teach music at general education schools. The programs are distinguished by a wide range of courses in the arts, music education, and musicology. Depending on their specialization and career goals, teaching degree students may study either just music or music in combination with another subject.
All programs explore music from different eras, styles, and genres, and various instructional approaches are used so that prospective music teachers are qualified to teach a school subject that is both challenging and significant to society as a whole.
Starting with the winter semester in 2011/2012, the degree programme „Lehramt Musik für Gymnasien, Gesamtschulen und Berufkollegs“ (to become a music teacher at the German Gymnasium, Gesamtschule or Berufskolleg) will be reorganized and changed to BA/MA. Therefore, it will no longer be possible to study for the degree of a German state exam.
The entrance examinations for the BA-programme „Lehramt Musik“ will take place in summer 2011.
