All professors for string instruments have international concert experience and expertise in the important genres of traditional European music. During the course of their studies, students are encouraged to explore contemporary music while simultaneously gaining experience performing historical music. The comprehensive demands students face when playing chamber and orchestra music, including staged auditions, lays the foundation preparing students for a career with a number of diverse possibilities.

Highlights: Students regularly have the opportunity to perform with different groups and at different events. The University’s symphony orchestra has 2-3 performances per semester, often winners of student competitions performing as soloists. Master classes with special guests are also offered regularly. The course “Embodiment” encourages students to understand the importance that their long-term health has on playing their instruments. Last but not least, students benefit from Cologne’s vibrant music scene.
