The University of Music and Dance Cologne has been offering bachelor’s and master’s degree programs since the 2008/09 winter semester. Applicants for the B.A. in Dance program can participate in a new program in which they choose between the specializations for performance dance and dance dissemination following the basic program. The introduction of the bachelor’s degree gives students more opportunities to concentrate on contemporary trends in the dance world. The academic quality of the program is enhanced by project-specific and interdisciplinary work as well as the thorough integration of practice and theory. Innovative instruction methods such as courses with two instructors from different areas of expertise, group and individual classes, and coaching sessions allow students to develop their skills individually.
The bachelor’s degree is completed after eight semesters and is an internationally recognized degree that entitles the student to work in the field of dance. Students with bachelor’s degrees may subsequently enroll in master’s degree programs throughout Europe, provided that they pass an aptitude test. Great emphasis is placed on preparing students both practically and mentally, and on helping them find their own artistic identities.
