In addition to national and international competitions, inter-campus competitions also take place at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. These inter-campus competitions make it possible to compare student performance and give instructors an understanding of their students’ strengths and weaknesses.
Since 1999, the association has annually awarded this prize benefitting up-and-coming musicians.
The award is an important tool in supporting young musicians who play instruments that are rarely included at larger competitions.
The following instrument groups rotate annually:
Viola, violoncello, and double bass – flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon – saxophone, bugle, trumpet, and trombone
The repertoire is chosen by the instructors of each department. A panel of instructors selects the winners.
The prize money totals €7,700. The annual award ceremony follows a concert at the University’s concert hall. Prof. Joachim Ullrich (Vice President) is the Artistic Director for the competition.
